Quarter 1 Writing
Writing Unit 1.1
To start the year we are emerging the children in narrative adventures. A narrative adventure is one in which the main character engages in a difficult, risky or unexpected adventure in an exotic setting culminating in a hazardous chase, a decisive struggle, or a suspenseful or dangerous experience. Students will tell of an adventure they participated in, in a short one or multi-page book with illustrations that match the text. We will teach the children critical story elements, like character, setting and plot and that the events of a story are told in a sequence. Through modeling, children will learn to use transition words like, first, then, next and finally to develop a clear beginning, middle and end to their narratives.
